Ralph J. DiClemente, Ph.D., is Charles Howard Candler Professor of Public Health and Associate Director of the Emory/Atlanta Center for AIDS Research. He holds concurrent appointments as Professor in the School of Medicine and the Department of Medicine, in the Division of Infectious Diseases and the Department of Pediatrics, in the Division of Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases and Immunology, and the Department of Psychiatry. He was most recently, Chair of the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Health Education at the Rollins School of Public Health. Dr. DiClemente was trained as a Health Psychologist at the University of California San Francisco, where he received his PhD in 1984 after completing an MS in Behavioral Sciences at the Harvard School of Public Health and his undergraduate degree at the City University of New York.

Dr. DiClemente was previously a Professor in the School of Public Health, Department of Health Behavior and the School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases and the Department of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He was Co-Director of the Prevention Sciences Research Program, Center for AIDS Research. Prior to joining the UAB faculty, he was at the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies and the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics, University of California San Francisco and a Senior Research Scientist at the Bayview-Hunter's Point Foundation Multicultural Research Institute, an African-American non-governmental organization in San Francisco.

Dr. DiClemente has published extensively in the areas of HIV prevention, STD prevention, vaccine promotion and partner violence. He is the author of more than 500 peer review publications, 150 book chapters and 18 books including the recent books Handbook of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
