Nadine J. Kaslow, Ph.D., ABPP is a professor with tenure, Emory University School of Medicine: Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
and Director of the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Professional Psychology at Emory University School of Medicine. She holds a joint appointment in the Departments of Psychology, Pediatrics, and Emergency Medicine, and the Rollins School of Public Health. At Emory, she is Past-President of the University Senate and Past-Chair of the Faculty Council and former Special Assistant to the Provost.  She has an honorary doctorate from Pepperdine University.

Dr. Kaslow was the 2014 President of the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Board of Trustees, a former  Editor of the Journal of Family Psychology, as well as Past- President/Chair of the American Board of Professional Psychology, Family Process Institute,  the Wynne Center for Family Research, and the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers.

In 2002, she chaired the multinational 2002 Competencies Conference: Future Directions in Education and Credentialing in Professional Psychology. Dr. Kaslow was a Fellow in the 2003-2004 Class of the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program for Women, a Fellow in the 2004 Woodruff Leadership Academy, and a Primary Care Public Policy Fellow through the United States Public Health Service under the auspices of the Department of Health and Human Services (2002).  

She has been a member of the National Institute of Mental Health Interventions and Treatment and Child Psychopathology and Treatment Institutional Review Groups. Dr. Kaslow has over 300publications on culturally competent assessment and treatment of low-income Afrrican Americans, assessment and treatment of family violence (intimate partner violence, child maltreatment), assessment and treatment of depression and suicide in youth and adults, couples and family therapy, women’’s mental health, integrated healthcare, and a competency-based approach to psychology education and supervision.  

Dr. Kaslow has received a number of awards, most notably the APA’s Hesier Award for legislative advocacy and public policy, APA’s Distinguished Contributions to Education and Training Award, Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers Outstanding Teacher Award, APA Presidential Citation, Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Training, the Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award,   d, the Fulton DeKalb Hospital Authority Community Advocate Award, Grady Health Foundation’s Inspiring Mentor Award, and Emory University’s Thomas Jefferson Award.   

A member of Rosalynn Carter’s Mental Health Advisory Board, she serves on a number of community boards. Dr. Kaslow is a frequent guest on local and national radio and television programs, and is often called upon to comment to newspapers and magazines on a broad array of mental health topics relevant to children, women, families, and stress and coping during times of tragedy. Dr. Kaslow remains passionately involved in taking ballet classes and teaching ballet and serves as the psychologist for the Atlanta Ballet.
