New! Graduate Students Encouraged to Register for ORCID iD

Laney Graduate School encourages all graduate students to register for a free ORCID iD , a unique identifier that ensures you are always correctly associated and connected with your academic work. An ORCID iD helps keep your research record accurate if you have a common name, if you decide to change your name, or if you publish under different versions of your name. ORCID iDs are now required by numerous publishers and granting agencies such as the NIH , so it benefits you to register for an ORCID iD and use it in the earliest stages of your academic/publishing career.

Emory Libraries have a comprehensive new guide that explains what ORCID is and why you should trust it. You can get an ORCID iD by following this very simple and quick process:

  1. Navigate to ORCID’s registration site : Use your Emory email to register. You can change your email later when you have a new affiliation but note that you will always use this same ORCID iD – it stays with you throughout your career. Very important! When registering, make sure to click on " EVERYONE" in the " Visibility Settings" portion of the form. Doing so will make your research more visible and discoverable. Note: your email address(es) are always kept private.
  2. Add your scholarly works : Once you’ve created your ORCID iD, you can add works to your record, set up automatic updates, or delegate management of your account to someone else.
  3. Use your ORCID iD : Include your ORCID iD on your webpage, when you submit publications, on grant applications, and in other research workflows to ensure that you get credit for your work.

Please contact Jody Bailey or Emory Libraries Scholarly Communications Office if you have any questions.
