PhD Student Union Collective Bargaining Update

Emory University held its fourth collective bargaining session with SEIU Workers United, Southern Region Local 29, on June 17.

In this session, the University and the Union reached a tentative agreement on Union Representation, which relates to the Union’s access to campus. We also continued to progress on a variety of other topics, including Union Security and Check-Off, Union Recognition, and Management Rights.  These proposals relate to procedures for collecting Union fees, the definition of the bargaining unit, and the rights of the University that are not otherwise limited by the contract.

The Union also presented on additional topics, including parental leave, childcare, and lactation support.

The sessions continue to be both positive and productive.
