Laney Graduate School Hosts 2025 LGS Awards Ceremony

 

On April 10, the Laney Graduate School community gathered to celebrate the 2025 LGS Award recipients during a special ceremony and reception.

 

The event honored outstanding graduate students, faculty, alumni, and staff who exemplify excellence in scholarship, leadership, and mentorship.

 

This annual celebration is a signature moment for Laney, recognizing individuals whose contributions strengthen the academic and professional environment for all.

Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences International Alumni Panel + Student Town Hall

 

International GDBBS alumni who have successfully transitioned into careers in academia and industry are hosting a panel to share insights on job searching, visa strategies, and navigating the evolving professional and immigration landscape. 

  

Following the panel, there will be a student town hall to provide space for international trainees to share concerns, ask questions, and collectively identify key priorities and demands in response to the current policy climate. This will be an opportunity to gather input to inform future advocacy and support. 

  

Featured Panelists: 

  • Esra Sefik – postdoc, Princeton Neuroscience Institute  
    studies adult brain plasticity and psilocybin’s effects using advanced imaging and machine learning 
  • Sulagna Das – assistant professor, Cell Biology & Human Genetics, Emory , leads research on mRNA dynamics in neurons using real-time imaging technologies 
  • Thomas Shiu – research fellow, Massachusetts General Hospital,  
    investigates GABAergic synaptic changes in epilepsy using imaging and electrophysiology
  • Nuri Jeong – founder, Goals Unhindered  
    a corporate training company focused on data communication and decision-making in global teams; 2025 Truist Foundation Fellow.

The SIS Crisis On-Call Team is staffed 24/7 and responds to students’ active crises. Compensation is provided and SIS Team Responders receive ongoing training and support.

Fox Center Humanities Pathways Fellowship  

 
The Pathways Fellowship is intended to provide a graduate student in the humanities or humanistic social sciences a pathway into academic careers beyond the tenure track. The selected fellow will gain a broad range of professional experience by collaborating with our staff team on program management, event design, budget management, research and assessment, and communications.

 

Students with a strong interest in alternative academic careers are especially encouraged to apply. The fellow will have a desk at the Fox Center and is expected to work primarily in person. Occasional evening work (1-2 times per month) is expected as part of supporting the Center’s events program. 
 
Work schedule: 20 hours/week
