Laney Graduate Student Published in Prestigious Medical Journal
Doctoral student Alex Soltoff, a candidate in the Health Services Research and Health Policy program (Organization and Management track), has been published in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
This recognition is a significant milestone, as JAMA is one of the most prestigious medical journals in the world, known for publishing high-impact, peer-reviewed research that advances medical knowledge and practice.
Soltoff’s research article, titled “Caregiver-Reported Quality in Hospices Owned by Private Equity Firms and Publicly Traded Companies,” explores vital questions about the quality of care provided in hospice settings.
His work contributes to the ongoing efforts to improve the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of individuals and families during end-of-life care and reflects the caliber of scholarship produced by Laney Graduate School students.

Building Community: Spring Mixers for International Graduate Scholars and Postdoctoral Fellows
The EDGE Office (Emory Diversifying Graduate Education) and the Vice Provost of Graduate Affairs invites graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to a series of spring mixers designed to celebrate the rich diversity of Emory’s international scholars.
These gatherings are more than just events—they are a chance to build meaningful connections, exchange experiences, and foster a sense of belonging within a vibrant and supportive community.
Held in the welcoming Oxford Living Room, the mixers provide a unique space for scholars from across academic disciplines and diverse geographic backgrounds to come together, network, and engage in conversations that inspire collaboration and camaraderie.

Reframe Your Research - Shifting Perspectives on Your Data for New Insights
Designed for international PhD students and postdoctoral fellows, this interactive workshop, led by Emory alum and executive coach, Nuri Jeong, PhD, shows researchers how to analyze their data from the perspective of key stakeholders, such as employers, advisors, and grant reviewers.
Participants will receive peer feedback and discover new ways to refine and reframe their research for maximum impact.

Data Visualization and Analysis Workshop: Introduction to Python
Join the Division Student Advisory Council (DSAC) for the GDBBS for its Introduction to Python Workshop. This will be a hybrid workshop that is open to all LGS students.

With joint funding from the Laney Graduate School and the Dean’s Office of Emory College of Arts and Sciences, Emory College’s Office for Undergraduate Education will award up to three graduate student fellowships to advanced graduate students in the natural sciences.

ELSP Mini-Course: Advancing Your Graduate Writing Skills
This mini-course is designed to help multilingual graduate students refine their scholarly writing skills through:
- Focused sessions tailored to common writing challenges.
- Exploration of disciplinary writing conventions to better understand and meet the expectations in your field of study.
- Personalized feedback on your writing to help you develop as an academic writer.
- Introduction of tools and strategies for self-editing and continued improvement.
The course emphasizes practical application and individualized support to help students produce clear, effective, and well-organized writing.
When: Once a week, mid-February through the first week in April (time to be determined based on interested parties’ schedules)
