LAST CHANCE! The Whole Scientist Atlanta: May 29 – 30 with The Jackson Laboratory and Morehouse School of Medicine

 

The Whole Scientist™ Regional Short Course, co-hosted by Morehouse School of Medicine, consists of a series of seminars and workshops led by invited experts to guide trainees in developing the skills needed to advance to the next stage of their careers.


This program is supported through NIH grant R25GM113979.


Late-stage Ph.D. students and Postdocs seeking careers as biomedical researchers – in academia, industry, biotech, or government – will gain valuable insights in areas including career exploration, project management, scientific communication, and mentoring. There will be sessions that can be applied to Responsible Conduct of Research obligations. Participants also benefit from expanding their network of supportive and collegial peers.

Registration is $20, but the full amount will be refunded upon participation in the course.

The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution with a mission to discover precise genomic solutions for disease and empower the global biomedical community in the shared quest to improve human health.

Job Opportunity - Center on Probes for Molecular Mechanobiology Director of Community Engagement

 

Are you a 2023-2024 PhD graduate interested in science communication and advancing the field of mechanobiology through the development of new probes and techniques that will transform our understanding of cell mechanics and its relationship with human health?

 

The NIH sponsored center on probes for mechanobiology (CPMM) was recently formed at Emory University, and we are seeking to hire a Director of Community Engagement. The CPMM is committed to advancing the field of mechanobiology through the development of new probes and techniques that will transform our understanding of cell mechanics and its relationship with human health.

 

The candidate will help with strategic communications involving dissemination of methods and techniques to cell biology end users as well as industry partners and academic collaborators. The candidate will also help organize training for the community. 

 

The responsibilities of the candidates will include the following:

  • Strategic communications: This will involve dissemination of methods and techniques cell biology end users as well as industry partners and academic driving biological project leads.
  • Organizing training for the community: This includes annual bootcamp training for junior trainees in diverse fields. Coordinating efforts across multiple national biological projects with our partners.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A Ph.D. or equivalent experience is preferred and past experience in science communication is desirable.

Student Intervention Services Responder Recruitment

 

Campus Life’s Student Intervention Services is seeking new SIS Responders to join the SIS team. Students who are second year graduate students and beyond are encouraged to join. The SIS Crisis On-Call Team is staffed 24/7 and responds to students’ active crises. Compensation is provided and SIS Team Responders receive ongoing training and support.

Piedmont TATTO Fellowship on Sustainability and Curriculum Development

Applications are now open for the Piedmont TATTO Fellowship on Sustainability and Curriculum Development. This interdisciplinary program is open to graduate students in all disciplines and professional programs who want to expand their teaching repertoire around sustainability, environmental, and social justice issues. Fellows share a one-day workshop, learn from campus experts, explore engaged learning opportunities, experience creative teaching strategies, and develop teaching materials.

 

The program offers a $500 stipend upon completion and approval of a syllabus and attendance at an end-of-summer field trip.
