Elinore Darzi, PhD, made the most of her six-year journey at Emory University, where she pursued her doctorate in the Department of French and Italian. As she reflects on her time at Emory, Darzi highlights the reasons she chose the university, the remarkable experiences she gained, and the support systems that helped shape her academic and professional path.
Darzi was drawn to Emory for its unique academic excellence—particularly the French department’s rare and rigorous focus on continental philosophy. A dedicated scholar of Jean-François Lyotard, she was inspired by the opportunity to study in the same department where the renowned philosopher once taught.
Beyond the classroom, Darzi’s journey was enriched by research fellowships, conference presentations across the globe, and community-building experiences through Emory’s EDGE initiative. Her dissertation, "Silent Cries: The Ethics and Aesthetics of Infancy," explores ethics, aesthetics, and the unspoken dimensions of the human experience.
Darzi now heads to San Antonio, Texas, where she will serve as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Modern Languages and Literature at Trinity University.

Emory exceeds 4 million square feet of sustainably certified building space with new LEED Gold certification
Last fall, Emory celebrated the opening of The Ridge, the university’s new on-campus student housing development for graduate and professional students. Now, The Ridge has become Emory’s 21st building to achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Buildings Council, and the 42nd LEED-certified building overall.
The certification program is the world’s most prominent green building rating system; its LEED Gold rating distinguishes the new residence for integrating sustainable, resource-efficient and well-being-focused design and construction elements that support ecosystem and resident health.
An array of resource-conserving design features and health and environmental safety measures earned The Ridge its LEED Gold certification in the Homes and Multifamily Midrise category.
