Mentor and Mentee Honored with 2025 Eleanor Main Awards

Congratulations to the 2025 Eleanor Main Graduate Faculty Mentor Award winner Patricia Brennan, PhD, Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of Psychology and Chaela Nutor, PhD the recipient of the 2025 Eleanor Main Graduate Student Mentor Award.

It is especially meaningful that Brennan and Nutor were both selected for these honors, given their relationship as mentor and mentee. Their dual nomination and selection are powerful testaments to the impact of exceptional guidance and inspired learning.

The Eleanor Main Graduate Faculty and Student Mentor Awards were established to honor the legacy of Eleanor Main, PhD, a beloved Emory faculty member and champion of graduate education. These annual awards recognize outstanding mentorship at faculty and student levels and celebrate those who go above and beyond to guide, support, and inspire others.

Alumni Spotlight | Marcia Ash

Marcia Ash’s journey through Emory University has been a full-circle moment in more ways than one. Growing up just around the corner from campus, her academic path began with a high school research assistantship on an Emory study examining the effects of a compassion-based meditation program. That early exposure sparked a deep curiosity about the mind-body connection and laid the groundwork for a career committed to the intersection of compassion, public health, and behavioral science.

After completing her bachelor’s degree at Washington University in St. Louis, Marcia returned to Emory to work at the Emory-Tibet Partnership, currently known as the Emory Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics, a unique collaboration with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. That experience—and the recognition of how interdependence underpins both personal and public wellbeing—led her to pursue an MPH at Rollins School of Public Health, and eventually, a PhD at the James T. Laney School of Graduate Studies.

Laney Graduate Student captures national championship title for Emory track and field

Nikki Boon captured a national championship title during the 2025 NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championship in Geneva, Ohio, May 22-24.

Boon, a neuroscience PhD student, claimed the outdoor heptathlon title, her second national championship after winning the indoor pentathlon earlier this season.

With her two national titles, Boon became the third individual to win multiple titles in their Emory career and is the first person in Emory history to win the heptathlon. Boon was the lone competitor to reach 5,000 points in the NCAA Outdoor Championship and won with 5,435 points — 447 more than her next closest competitor.
