2025 American Academy of Nursing Fellows to include Laney inductees 

 

The American Academy of Nursing will induct 16 members of the Emory community into its 2025 Class of Fellows, including two Laney Graduate School alumnae, Paula Tucker, PhD, DNP, FNP-BC, ENP-C, FAANP and Brittany Butts, PhD, RN, FAHA, for their substantial contributions to healthcare.  

 

Brittany Butts, PhD, RN, FAHA 

Assistant Professor and Alumna, Laney Graduate School 

Butts is a cardiovascular nurse scientist whose work explores the links between heart disease, cognitive decline, and Alzheimer’s disease risk. With a PhD from the Laney Graduate School in nursing and immunology, she is an award-winning pathophysiology teacher whose research focuses on biological behavioral omics, health disparities, and caregiver well-being. 

 

Paula Tucker, PhD, DNP, FNP-BC, ENP-C, FAANP 

Associate Clinical Professor and Emergency Nurse Practitioner Program Director, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing 
Alumna, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and Laney Graduate School 

 

Tucker is an emergency nurse practitioner and national leader in health professions education, workforce development, and clinical practice. A Laney MSN and PhD graduate, she practices at the Grady Emergency Care Center and researches traumatic brain injury. She holds leadership positions in national NP organizations and helps shape policy and educational standards for the emergency NP workforce.

Student Union Collective Bargaining Update

 

Emory University and SEIU Workers United, Southern Region Local 29, held productive collective bargaining sessions on June 26 and July 10. 

 

The Union presented amended proposals on visa & work authorization, voluntary savings, workspace, leave, health insurance, discipline and discharge, professional development resources, and non-discrimination, harassment and retaliation.

 

The University presented amended proposals on funding pools, grievance & arbitration, intellectual property, leave, professional development resources and visa & work authorization, force majeure, workplace safety, discipline and discharge, and an academic vs. employment appendix.

 

The parties reached tentative agreements on English language support program, intellectual property, and non-discrimination, harassment and retaliation.

 

The next session will take place on Tuesday, July 29 . Updates will be provided in the Grad Report as negotiations progress.

G.I.V.E. Day brings together students, faculty, staff, friends, and family to support nonprofit organizations across Atlanta. Whether you're passionate about environmental conservation, animal welfare, or food distribution, this is your chance to give back in a meaningful way. 

 

Volunteer sites include Trees Atlanta, Ronald McDonald House, Unearthing Farms, Atlanta Community Food Bank and the PAWS animal shelter. All projects will take place throughout the morning followed by a complimentary lunch at Cannon Chapel.

Emory College Academic Success under the Office for Undergraduate Education, is seeking a Graduate Assistant to support the coordination, communication, and development of its peer-led academic support program. Programs include Learning Assistance, Peer Tutoring, Academic Coaching and Accountability Groups. 

 

The Graduate Assistant will help strengthen the programs’ operations, student engagement, and campus partnerships through data management, mentoring support, and outreach. 

 

Duration: 15 hours/week
