Deadline Approaching! Kharen Fulton Award for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement in Graduate Education

The Kharen Fulton Award was created to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Kharen Fulton and her dedication to diversity in graduate education. This LGS Diversity Award will be presented to one LGS doctoral scholar to acknowledge his or her personal and professional efforts towards diversity, inclusion, and community engagement in the Laney Graduate School at Emory University. Award recipients will receive a framed citation and an award prize of $2,000. The award announcement will take place during the October 2020 celebratory recognition of Laney EDGE Fellowship Recipients.

The Career Beliefs inventory can help you get “unstuck” in the career planning process by identifying assumptions and beliefs that might be blocking progress. This process helps to examine current beliefs, process and release negative beliefs and emotions, and determining new actions that can be taken based on new beliefs. Learn strategies to deal with setbacks and challenges as they arise.

New! TATTO extension: Tips and Strategies for International Teaching Assistants

This session is designed for international TAs who are teaching assistants this academic year (Fall 2020, Spring 2021, and Summer 2021). It will cover the key topics of US classroom culture, cultural communication, and strategies for success, including useful phrases for asking & answering questions, asking for clarification, and giving feedback and corrections. This workshop aims to ensure that participants develop a firm understanding of the skills needed to ensure greater success with facilitating courses in English.

Transforming Research 2020 Conference

The Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library is the virtual host for this year’s Transforming Research Conference. Mellon Humanities PhD Interventions Project Info Session

Please join us for the first remote session of Fall 2020 for the Mellon Humanities PhD Interventions Project. Jones Program in Ethics (JPE): Mini-Grants

The Jones Program in Ethics is pleased to announce a series of mini-grants for Laney Graduate School PhD student research projects. A successful proposal will highlight particular ways your project engages in ethics. This could include, but is not limited to, a philosophical question, a pragmatic application, or a challenge to, or support of, cultural and societal norms. These grants will be awarded to individuals or groups who are engaged in the stated research project.

Laney Graduate Writing Group

Join the weekly graduate student writing group to keep yourself accountable, make progress, and obtain feedback on your projects.

 

For the first hour, you will write for two 25-minute intervals using the Pomodoro technique. In the second hour, you will have the opportunity to receive feedback on your writing, via Zoom, with a member of either the Emory Writing Center or the English Language Support Program (ELSP).

Zoom Class Engagement Workshop Series

The CFDE is offering a Workshop Series on “Zoom Class Engagement,” that provides extra support for instructors and TAs who are planning engaging learning activities in Zoom class settings. One-on-one feedback on existing teaching projects will be available to attendees. Participants should come with an idea in mind and a class session to work on developing. 

Workshops in the series include:

  • Group Work in Zoom
  • Exam Review Games in Zoom  

Each workshop in the series is being offered twice at various times/dates throughout September and October.
