Nominations Open for the 2026 Laney Graduate School Awards
Nominations are now open for the 2026 Laney Graduate School Awards, which honor LGS students, faculty, staff, and alumni who demonstrate exceptional scholarship, leadership, service, and community impact.
Dean Kimberly Jacob Arriola encourages the LGS community to take part in recognizing excellence across campus.
“These awards give us an opportunity to celebrate the many ways our community contributes to discovery, innovation, and belonging at Emory,” said Dean Arriola. “If someone has inspired you, I invite you to lift their name.”
Nominations should be 200–500 words unless otherwise noted in the award description.
Award winners will be notified in March 2026, and honorees will be celebrated at the LGS Awards Ceremony in April. The nomination deadline is Jan. 20, 2026.

Sharpen Your Research Story
Whether you’re preparing for the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®), the Master’s Showcase, a job interview, or a networking conversation how you present your ideas, clear communications matters.
This spring, Laney Graduate School will offer two workshops designed to help you explain your work clearly and compellingly to non-specialist audiences.
Communicating Research Concisely & Effectively
11-12 p.m., Friday, January 23 | The Hatchery
Learn how to define the narrative of your work and explain its significance clearly and compellingly.
Public Speaking Workshop
2-4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 3 | North Decatur Building
Take your presentation skills to the next level. During this workshop participants will learn how to speak with clarity and confidence, manage nerves and engage any audience and deliver a clear, impactful message.

Call for Halle Graduate Global Fellows
The Halle Institute for Global Research and Learning in collaboration with Laney Graduate School has launched the 2026 Graduate Global Research Fellows program for LGS PhD students in the pre-candidacy stage.
Students from all research traditions and LGS divisions conducting research outside of the United States or for transitional projects where most of the research occurs outside of the United States are encouraged to apply.
Compensation: This program will fund up to twelve grants with maximum awards of $5, 000 / grant

AAAS Catalyzing Advocacy in Science and Engineering (CASE) Workshop
Laney Graduate School is sponsoring three student participants to attend the AAAS Catalyzing Advocacy in Science and Engineering (CASE) Workshop. The CASE workshop is an exciting opportunity to learn from science policy and advocacy experts about the role of science in policymaking and the federal policy-making process. It empowers participants with ways to become a voice for research throughout their careers.
