Graduate Student Appreciation Week 2026

grad student appreciation week event schedule

Each year, Graduate Appreciation Week offers an intentional pause in the rhythm of research, writing, teaching, and discovery to recognize the extraordinary contributions of Emory’s graduate students.

These scholars drive innovation across disciplines, mentor undergraduates, contribute to groundbreaking research, and strengthen the intellectual fabric of the university. Graduate Appreciation Week is designed to celebrate not only their academic achievements, but also their well-being, creativity, and sense of community.

At its core, the week reflects a commitment to supporting the whole graduate student experience. Moments of restoration and connection are woven throughout the programming, creating space for students to step away from deadlines and reconnect with one another. Whether through creative expression, play, or simple joy, each event underscores the importance of balance and belonging in graduate education.

“Graduate students contribute immeasurably to the life of the university,” said Jennifer Cason, assistant dean, student affairs. “Graduate Appreciation Week is an opportunity to recognize their dedication, create moments of joy, and reaffirm our commitment to their flourishing; academically, professionally, and personally.”

Research consistently shows that opportunities for play, artistic engagement, and social connection can reduce stress and enhance well-being. This week’s activities invite students to engage in creative practices, experience the therapeutic presence of animals, and build small rituals of self-care that can extend beyond a single week.

Graduate Appreciation Week serves as both recognition and reminder: graduate education is rigorous, but it should also include celebration.
