Global Development Student Council Hosts Documentary Screening of 1984, When the Sun Didn't Rise
On November 7, 2019, Global Development Student Council along with Emory's East Asia Collective, American Sikhi Educational and Empowerment Network, and Asian Americans Advancing Justice Atlanta hosted a documentary screening of 1984, When the Sun Didn't Rise. The film covers the 1984 Sikh massacre after the assassination of Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards as well as its devastating aftermath.
Teenaa Kaur, the film's director, held a post-show discussion where she shared her motivations, process and thoughts on making the well-renowned documentary. Attendees were impressed by Kaur's relentless pursuit for tolerance in times of immense difficulty. Her work continuously inspires the next generation of social justice advocates to fight for the truth, even when faced with adversary.
