Course Spotlight - MDP 514R: Apply Social Network Analysis to Development Practice
As a part of the Applied Development series, MDP 514R: Apply Social Network Analysis to Development Practice will be offered Spring 2020. This ten-week module will introduce students to the basics of applying social network analysis (SNA) to field research and evaluation. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of theoretical, ethical, and practical implications of SNA-style research and participate in hands-on exercises in collecting, cleaning, visually representing, and collaboratively analyzing social network data.
This 2-credit course will be taught by Dr. Ioulia Fenton, student advisor and instructor in the MDP program. Dr. Fenton is a committed teacher who won the 2018 George Armelagos Award for Excellence in Teaching by Graduate Student from Emory's Department of Anthropology. She has taught introductory graduate and undergraduate classes in anthropology and sustainable development, as well as seminars in food, health, and applied research methods at Emory and Clark Atlanta universities, where she held the 2018-2019 Andrew A. Mellon Graduate Teaching Fellowship.
