Director of Impact, Frontier Design

Amelia Conrad (MDP 2016), is an experienced mixed methods researcher, evaluator, and consultant with a deep commitment to advancing gender equity, social justice, and inclusivity. At Frontier Design - a small, woman-owned consulting firm - she leads impact measurement, evaluation, and learning projects across the social impact sector and helps clients combine the power of human-centered design and data-driven insights to co-create meaningful solutions to complex challenges. Amelia has extensive experience in business operations - including organizational culture building, business development, and more - which provides with unique insights into the "behind the scenes" aspects of this field. Prior to this role, Amelia worked at the Emory Rollins School of Public Health, where she led and supported multi-country research projects focused on gender and WASH. She has also served with JBS International, CARE International, and The Carter Center.

In her work with Emory, Amelia guides students through an understanding of consulting in the social impact sector, including proposal development, project execution, and co-creative approaches to research and design. Her goal is to increase students' understanding of this broad field and to help them become more competitive for meaningful career opportunities, in consulting and beyond, through hands-on, discussion-oriented, and collaborative class sessions.

Amelia's career has spanned across the U.S., Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and South/Southeast Asia, working with grassroots initiatives, major international nonprofits, philanthropic foundations, universities, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies. She specializes in developing theories of change, co-creating measurement frameworks, designing and conducting research and analysis, and bringing rigor to the development of artifacts like user personas and journey maps. She is at her best when applying robust techniques and academic principles to real-world problems, making measurement and learning actionable in settings constrained by time, resources, or other limitations, and excels at translating data and evidence into meaningful insights for high-level audiences, including senior executives and boards of directors. When she's not working, you can find her traveling, hiking, running, writing, gardening, cooking, and playing with her gigantic puppy!
