JYOTI KANERIA

Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Georgia Institute of Technology

Jyoti Kaneria, Ph.D., is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology where she works on a mixed-methods project addressing the lack of representation of Latine youth in computer science. Further, she is a critical qualitative methodologist who draws on arts-based and humanizing approaches theorized through critical and endarkened feminist thought. As a methodologist, she develops an ethic of care with her participants while also staying true to representing their experiences in ways that reflect their lived experiences. Dr. Kaneria also seeks to integrate creative analysis and representation of data including visual and poetic methods. One of the primary topics she explores through these approaches is the identity sense-making experiences of transnational youth in ethnic studies and other culturally relevant programs. In addition, her work includes developing curriculum and programming that is relevant to and representative of their cultures and languages and embodies critical consciousness building. Dr. Kaneria’s expertise in arts-based and participatory action research has allowed her to work on several projects where she has built connections with educators, non-profits, and youth in the metro Atlanta and in international contexts.
